Golf is both a delicate and physically demanding sport. The muscles of the body need to be well developed in order to maximize a golf swing, but they need to be toned and supple at the same time. Not only that, but the golfer must also be able to provide a stable and balanced platform to make the swing, while a proper posture must be maintained in order to make sure the swing is a clean one.

These physical requirements cannot be achieved by traditional body-building methods. The muscles may be strong, yes, but they will become too pronounced, rigid and inflexible – something that will ruin a golfer’s form.

Thankfully, there are ball exercises designed specifically to address these concerns.

Large balls or Swiss balls are platforms that support the user in various unique exercises. These ball exercises prove to be perfect for golfers, as they address the following concerns:

Power

Maximizing a wide golf swing and putting just enough power into that putt is an important aspect of working out. Ball exercises are comparable to traditional methods like sit-ups, lateral pulls and bench presses in this concern. However, power is not the only thing that is developed when one uses Swiss balls to work out.<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/29638083@N00/3008638590/"title="The shot" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">

Balance

While traditional workout methods focus on bodybuilding and sheer muscular development, ball exercises take it further by forcing the user to compensate for balance. The nature of a ball is to roll around, and the act of preventing that from happening while exercising is enough to develop a golfer’s sense of balance. This balance is essential in ensuring a golfer is able to make the perfect swing without tripping all over him or herself.

Toning

Preventing the Swiss ball from rolling around not only builds muscle power and enhances a golfer’s balance, it also tones the muscles. This is essential to a golfer, as muscles that are too pronounced will ruin form. These overly-developed muscles have a tendency to block a swinging form, and this is the reason why professional golfers are have slim, toned muscles rather than steely bulging ones.

Posture

A combination of power, balance and muscle tone all culminates to one essential aspect of golf and that essential aspect would be the posture of a golfer. As previously mentioned, traditional exercise methods focus on bodybuilding. They shape muscles and give them power, but the way these muscles develop are detrimental to influencing a golfer’s posture. A slight shift in weight or imbalance in mass could ruin a swing’s momentum and direction. Ball exercises force its user to correct his or her posture, especially exercises involving sitting or leaning on the ball for support. This then builds correct posture while strengthening and shaping the various muscle groups.

Golf is not just about raw power and physical mass. It is about controlling that power and projecting it where it is needed. This then requires that a golfer practice controlling that power properly in an environment that steers his or her efforts towards this end, and ball exercises provide the perfect platform for him or her to do just that.
